The “Sorry, Kids!” Survey Project

The Sorry, Kids! surveys are a way for people over 40 to hold ourselves accountable to our descendants.

We have it good

Thanks to the sacrifices and innovations of prior generations, we have central heating and air conditioning, grocery stores fully stocked year-round, and unlimited entertainment content.

We also have some challenges

The choices made by prior generations have left us with climate change, federal budget deficits, overpopulation, and social media influencers. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could time travel? We could ask our forebears, “What were you thinking?”

We are not so innocent

Future generations will have their share of the good life and challenges. They, too, will wonder about us and what we were thinking! We can’t build them a time machine, but we can do the next best thing. We can leave behind summaries of our opinions, documenting what we are thinking.

Call to Action

These surveys are a way for us to set the record straight as to our beliefs and sense of responsibility for the future we pass on.

If you are over 40 years old, don’t let your grandchildren tell tales about you – misrepresent you and blame you. Capture what you believe about a key challenge and archive it for future generations.

If you are under 40 years old, pin down your older relatives and capture their thinking. By the year 2070, you may find yourself talking to young people who will want to know what grown-ups in the early 21st century were thinking. You will be able to say, “Wait a minute.” You’ll find copies of these surveys and say, “Read ’em and weep.”

The Surveys

Feel free to download and print these pdf files. Mark them up and archive them. Hard copy will likely be easier to find in a few decades than sorting through the plethora of digital images you will accumulate in your lifetime. While you are at it, make copies of other critical documents and photos to keep in analog form.
